This is a report from one of my workshops this summer. It took place at Träslottet in Arbrå. I was there yesterday and had a two hour workshop and then I sat carving spoons and promoting my book, The Art Of Whittling, in the UNESCO world heritage centre. I met an old acquaintance who is a student at the forging class at Sätergläntan. He run the forge at Träslottet for the second year now. He had made a couple of small blades for decorating. Not the regular chip-carving type, but more like an ordinary blade but short. I got one to try them out.
The workshop was short but very cheerful. I have a new pedagogic approach that was very successful at my 5 day course at Sätergläntan, and I used it now and it worked well. It is called ”split thin and axe small” and it focuses on the preparatory work a lot more than I have done before.
I hope I can write some more about Träslottet soon, and also give a review about the knife.
